Coventry Alvis 1-2 Rugby Borough
Rugby Borough won the Coventry Charity Cup with a 2-1 victory over Coventry Alvis at the Ricoh Arena.
In a game which the Coventry Charity Cup used to highlight its opposition to knife crime and support for the Daniel Kennell Foundation by having Coventry Sphinx U14’s as ball boys, Alvis from the Midland Football League Division 2, had the majority of the early play.
Dildale Linton was heavily involved, hitting the bar with a shot on the turn in the third minute and driving wide twice before the twenty-minute mark.
Leicestershire Senior League side Rugby Borough twice saw a 34th minute corner hacked off the line before Linton had a goal disallowed and missed the North Stand goal with two more efforts before the half ended in front of a good crowd.
The game sprang to life in the 51st minute when Chater did well on the left and pulled the ball back for Josh Turton to smash home from six yards and give Rugby the lead.
Three minutes later and that lead was extended thanks to Josh Turton hitting a shot which deflected into the net.
Alvis did not give up and they pulled a goal back in the 66th minute when Steve McKenna arrived at the back post to score.
Changes were made but Rugby held their nerve and were able to celebrate their first appearance at the Ricoh Arena with some silverware.
